Snoring PlastyInjection Snoring Plasty is a new surgical technique to treat snoring. This procedure has been effective by damaging the mucosa of the uvula and lower soft palate. Resultant scar tissue stiffens the palate and reduces snoring. Supporters of Injection Snoring Plasty highlight the advantage of a lower degree of pain following this procedure, compared to previous initiatives, which used lasers or electric surgery of the palate. Injection Snoring Plasty utilizes a sclerotherapy agent to destroy tissues by chemical cauterisation of the lining of the throat. This agent is FDA approved for sclerotherapy of varicose veins. However, it is not FDA approved for injection into the soft palate, or other tissues to treat snoring. Studies suggest that Injection Snoring Plasty is helpful in patients with favourable anatomy and very mild or no sleep apnea. Patients with mild snoring may benefit from Injection Snoring Plasty if there is nothing else in the airway that is causing obstruction, but it is inappropriate in patients with sleep apnea. Consequently, anybody interested should be screened for obstructive sleep apnea first. As at this stage in development, only a small number of patients are ideal candidates for Injection Snoring Plasty. | Cure snoring
